Nathan Thomas Roberts was born on 01 Apr 1831 in Tuscaloosa Co., Alabama and was the third child of Cornelius Benton "Bent" Roberts and Rhoda Lindsey. He had eleven siblings: Sarah M, William J, David P, John Marion, Mary Abagail, Cornelius Benton Jr, James Toliver, Emily Elizabeth, Abram Marshall, Jeremiah Joe, and Jesse R.

When he was 24, he married Sarah Marelda Jeffries, daughter of Abner Baker Jeffries and Nancy Hallmark, on 11 Oct 1855 in Bell County, Texas. Nathan Thomas Roberts and Sarah Marelda Jeffries had the following children:

1. William Jasper Roberts was born on 29 Oct 1856 in Bell County, Texas. He died on 05 Nov 1934 in Dallas County, Texas, USA. He married Mary Ellen Dorabell Taylor on 29 Jan 1879 in McCulloch County, Texas.
2. Mary Ann Roberts was born on 22 Aug 1858 in Bell County, Texas. She died on 22 Nov 1938 in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas. She married Alfred Deleon Lafayette Beckham in 1877.
3. Emily Katherine Roberts was born on 27 Nov 1860 in Bell County, Texas. She died on 20 Nov 1939 in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas. She married Junius Winthrop DuBose on 26 Dec 1878 in San Saba County, Texas.
4. Sarah Melissa Roberts was born on 17 Jun 1863 in Texas. She died on 25 Jun 1924 in San Francisco, San Francisco, California, United States. She married Benoni Aurilius DuBose on 10 May 1882 in Milbourne, McCulloch County, Texas.
5. Nancy (Nannie) Elizabeth Roberts was born on 06 Aug 1865 in Killeen, Bell County, Texas. She died on 18 Oct 1950 in Brownwood, Brown Co., Texas. She married Charles Jones Sellman on 12 Dec 1888 in Brady, McCulloch Co., Texas.
6. Nathan Cornelius Roberts was born on 24 Feb 1868 in Killeen, Bell Co., Texas. He died on 29 Aug 1942 in Pearl Valley, Lea Co., New Mexico. He married Pearl Stark on 04 Jun 1896 in Brownwood, Brown Co., Texas.
7. Rhoda "Roie" Abigail Roberts was born on 07 Aug 1870 in Coryell Co., Texas. She died on 01 May 1950 in Portland, San Patricio Co., Texas. She married Ennis Stark on 31 Mar 1895 in Brown County, Texas.
8. John Pruitt Roberts was born on 11 Feb 1873 in Coryell Co., Texas. He died on 30 Oct 1963 in Lovington, Lea Co., New Mexico. He married Lula Frances Fielding on 21 May 1899 in Odessa, TX.
9. Jessie Baker Roberts was born on 23 Aug 1875 in Coryell Co., Texas. He died on 24 Sep 1961 in Uvalde, Uvalde Co., Texas. He married Tennie Osceola Jolly on 15 Dec 1895 in McCulloch Co., Texas.
10. A Roberts was born on 11 May 1878 in McCulloch Co., Texas. She died on 30 Dec 1878 in McCulloch Co., Texas.

Nathan lived with his parents in Chickasaw, Mississippi, United States in 1840. By 1850, the entire family had all moved to Milam_Williamson County, Texas. Bell County, Texas, was home to Nathan, his wife, Sarah, and his two oldest children in 1860. His mother and father, along with several siblings lived in the same neighborhood.

In 1862, Nathan enlisted in Company A, 30th Texas Cavalry, as a Private. After returning home from the war, he and his family settled in Coryell County, Texas (1870); San Saba, Texas in 1880; and in Milbourne, McCulloch County, Texas in 1900.

Nath died on 30 Sep 1909 in Mason County, Texas, and was buried in the Voca Cemetery, Voca, McCulloch County, Texas, beside his wife, Nannie.
