Nathan Thomas Roberts was born on 01 Apr 1831 in Tuscaloosa Co., Alabama and was the third child of Cornelius Benton "Bent" Roberts and Rhoda Lindsey. He had eleven siblings: Sarah M, William J, David P, John Marion, Mary Abagail, Cornelius Benton Jr, James Toliver, Emily Elizabeth, Abram Marshall, Jeremiah Joe, and Jesse R.

When he was 24, he married Sarah Marelda Jeffries, daughter of Abner Baker Jeffries and Nancy Hallmark, on 11 Oct 1855 in Bell County, Texas. Nathan Thomas Roberts and Sarah Marelda Jeffries had the following children:

1. William Jasper Roberts was born on 29 Oct 1856 in Bell County, Texas. He died on 05 Nov 1934 in Dallas County, Texas, USA. He married Mary Ellen Dorabell Taylor on 29 Jan 1879 in McCulloch County, Texas.

Nath died on 30 Sep 1909 in Mason County, Texas, and was buried in the Voca Cemetery, Voca, McCulloch County, Texas, beside his wife, Nannie.
