Lloyd Layton Long, Sr., 95, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at Brookdale New Hope Assisted Living, Gastonia with his loving family by his side. Lloyd was born in Brunswick County, North Carolina on May 21, 1927 and is the son of the late John Austin and Effie Evans Long.

Lloyd and Helen are long time residents of Belmont, living on Amity Circle since it was developed.

Lloyd is a proud veteran of the United States Army during WWII. He and his loving wife are faithful members of First Baptist Church, Belmont. He is a member of Belmont Masonic Lodge #627. Lloyd was a Crane Operator with Duke Energy and worked for several plants, including Riverbend Power Plant, Allen Plant Steam Station, Cowan's Ford Dam and retired from the Catawba Nuclear Station.

After retirement, Lloyd and Helen operated High Cotton Antiques, traveled, camped around the country and enjoyed visiting family and friends. He was an accomplished wood worker and one of his passions was refurbishing antique furniture.

Lloyd is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Helen Ray Long; one loving daughter, Nanette Long; one loving son, Lloyd Layton Long, Jr. and wife Jane; one sister, Ruth Ward; two grandchildren whom he adored, Kevin Long (Mary), Erica Long Sherrill (Chip) and three great grandchildren, Jacob McElroy, Senna Lee Sherrill, Orson James Long.

A reception will be held prior to the Funeral Service for family and friends at 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 2, 2022 in the Chapel of First Baptist Church, 23 North Central Avenue, Belmont with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 11:00 A.M. Friday at First Baptist Church with Pastor Andrew Renfroe officiating.

Pallbearers will be Larry Long, Kevin Long, Chip Sherrill, Lee Brown, David Tomlinson, Jacob McElroy.

Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, "A Quiet Place", Belmont with Military Honors by the North Carolina National Guard and Gaston County Honor Guard. Masonic Rites by the Belmont Masonic Lodge #527 will follow the Interment Services.

Mr. Long was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Hoover Long, Aaron Long; one sister, Myrtle Ward.
