Augustus, fourth child in family of eleven, the son of Henry and Dorete (Lange) Sorge, was born in Saxon Weimer, Germany. The father and mother were natives of Prussia Germany. During one of the wars between Germany and France the father served as Lt-Colonel. A well educated man, he settled on farm and died 1853, age 55. Mother died 1883, age 77. Of eleven children, only two left for America. Augustus received a good education while in Germany, 7 years under private tutor, then school in Weimer, becoming profecient in French, Latin and higher mathematics. Came to America 1853, stayed in New York learning butcher trade. Went west 1857 to Keokuk, Iowa, working in big slaughter house. 1896 came to Sullivan Co., MO. Two years later married Mary Frances Warren. Six children born, two died in infancy. Living, Dora Elizabeth Arbuckle, LaCyne, Ks.; Carrie Emma Vroom, Linneus; James Henry, and Bertha Augusta Cleeton of St. Catherine. He and wife were members of M.E. Church in Hamilton neighborhood. Died age 81 years, 10 months, and 25days. Home in Winigan. Leaves wife and children. Services at Bethel. (The Browning Leader-Record, issue 10 May 1917, Browning, MO.)
