Mr. John Raiford "J.R." Morgan, age 73 of Blackshear, died early Friday morning (February 1, 2008) at his residence following an extended illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James E. and Sophia Bexton Morgan, 2 daughters, Linda Wesson, and Marcel Jennings, 3 sisters, Naomi Sellers, Louise Todd, and Reginald Wilson.

He was a Pierce County native, but had lived many years in Florida before moving to Waycross in 1979, and later moved back to Blackshear in 2002.

He was a shoe-repairman, and owned/operated Hometown Shoe Repair in Waycross and Blackshear. He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church.

Mr. Morgan was in the United States Navy, having served in the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War. He was a member of the VFW of Waycross Post 4382, and the American Legion in Blackshear Post 181.

He is survived by his wife, Maude Morgan of Blackshear, a son, Vincent Morgan of San Diego, CA, 2 stepsons, Ronald Johnson of Largo, FL, Robert Jennings wife Ellen of Rhineland, WI, a stepdaughter, Denise Jennings of Lafayette, LA, 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Jewel Weaver of Cadiz, KY, Leona Dixon husband Whitman of Waycross, several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday (February 3, 2008) at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Blackshear.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday (February 2, 2008) at Smith Funeral Home in Blackshear.
