William was born about 1520 in the town of Chard, County of Somerset, England. He married Deannes Baker, daughter of Richard and Deannes Baker who was born about 1520 in Crockhem, Somerset, England. He was a noted physician and he and his wife are buried within the grounds of St Mary's churchyard. Within the church there is a Brewer Memorial that can be found in the Fawcus Chapel. St Mary's web site says,
"The Brewer Memorial – to a local physician and his wife – on the West wall of the Chapel is a splendid example of 17th century work". The inscription below the mural reads: "Here lieth interred (expecting their Saviour) the bodyes of William Brewer of Chard, Phisitian and Deanes his wife, who, living forty years in Happy Wedlock, in full of age departed this life, shee dying 8 Nov 1614 and he 24 July 1618, having issue only six sons and five daughters all men and women growne, and all comforts to them."
