Charles grew up and then started his family in Bordentown, NJ, moving to Rahway, NJ, by 1886. He was a brakeman and possibly moved around because of his job. The Bordentown Register indicated his wife Josephine died in Bordentown in 1894. He remarried and had additional children in Camden, NJ (1895,7); Palmyra, NJ (1900) and Hoboken, NJ (1903). In Hoboken he worked as a foreman in a pencil factory. In 1940 he is back in Rahway, NJ living with his daughter Nellie and her family. Charles was buried in Bordentown cemetery next to his parents and his first wife Josephine.

Gravesite Details

The only grave marker is for his mother, Mary Eliza Dougherty wife of Capt. Pryor Dougherty. His father, Pryor Dougherty and his first wife Josephine Kessler Dougherty are also buried there.
