Mr. Avans is survived by his wife, Marion Avans; daughters, Melissa Smith and Heather Guffey; son, Donald Avans; grandchildren, Alaine Avans, Dawson Smith, Carmen Avans, and Jayden Guffey; sisters, Faye Frye, Glenna Williams, and Nancy Avans.
