Mary J. Atkinson, 78, went to be with her Lord in Heaven on September 6, 2015, in Napa, peacefully and surrounded by her children. She was born January 21, 1937, in Ontario, Oregon.

A graduate of Hermiston High School, after graduating she moved to Hayward, Calif. She loved and raised two children. Mary retired from Mervyn's as an executive secretary.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Viola J. Mechow, and her sister, Neva Baumel.

Mary is survived by son Eric XXX of XXX, Calif.; daughter Renee XXX of XXX, Calif.; grandchildren Robert, Joseph and Mellissa; great-grandchildren Savanah, Alyssa and Emilia; and many nieces and nephews.

Mary had a fun-loving spirit and a great sense of humor and was the second of five Mechow sisters; Clara Falkenrath, Ella XXX and Andrea XXX of Oregon will miss her terribly.

Mary was a member of the National Tole Painters Association and shared her love of quilting with her daughter. She loved and treasured her family and friends.

Upon her wishes a celebration of life will be held in late October; the date will be decided soon.

In lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made to Alzheimer's Association of Northern California and Northern Nevada, 2290 North First Street, Suite 101, San Jose, CA 95131.

Arrangements are under the direction of Treadway and Wigger Funeral Chapel, Napa, Calif.
