Enrolled 18 May 61 at Dover, Admitted 17 August 1862 to Chimborazo Hospital No 1, Richmond, Virginia with diarrhoea. Returned to duty 22 October 1862. Wounded and captured at Fredericksburg, Virginia 13 December 1862. Paroled and exchanged 17 December 1862. Asked permission to visit wounded brother, Order LR#254, Dept. Henrico County 26 December 1862. Present January and February 1863 until captured at Falling Waters, Maryland 14 July 1863. Sent July 1863 to Old Capitol Prison, Washington, D.C.. Transferred to Point Lookout, Maryland 8 August 1863.
Exchanged 3 March 1864. Present September and October 1864 until promoted to First Sergeant 12 November 1864. Present to January and February 1865. Captured 2 April 1865 at Hatcher's Run, Virginia. Sent from City Point, Virginia to Fort Delaware, Delaware 4 April 1865. Released on taking the oath 7 May 1865.

Member of the H.B. Lyon Camp #1259, United Confederate Veterans, New Concord, Calloway County, Kentucky.

His obituary stated "...he was a true soldier, never shirking any duty. At the close of the war he engaged in the mercantile business at New Concord, Calloway County, Kentucy., where he made many warm friends. On Feb. 4, 1900, he fought for his last great fight, and conquered the last foe, for he was also a faithful soldier of the cross. He left a family of wife, and interesting sons and daughters."
