SOUTH HERO/WESTFORD -- Randy Leon Gilbeau, 47, of South Hero, died unexpectedly Saturday, July 5, 2003, at his home in South Hero. Randy was born Jan. 21, 1956 in Burlington, the son of Leon and Phyllis Richards Gilbeau.

He attended Westford schools and graduated from the Essex Junction Educational Center in 1975. Following his graduation he went to work at IBM with a subcontractor doing maintenance work for several years. He then was employed with the Westford School System as a custodian. Randy enjoyed the children and he dedicated many years of himself coaching and umpiring basketball and softball. He had a way of instilling self confidence in every child that he came in contact with. He helped by giving them the confidence that they needed to believe in themselves.

After leaving Westford, Randy married the love of his life, the former Julie Maxfield in Westford on July 4, 2001. He spent his last years working at South Hero Mobil where he and his wife Julie managed the second shift. This was a job that he truly enjoyed and where he also enjoyed the public interaction.

Randy loved life and lived it to the fullest and was very appreciative of everything and everyone that he met. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Julie Gilbeau of South Hero; and his beloved parents, Leon and Phyllis Gilbeau of Westford; his brothers and sisters, Leo Gilbeau of South Burlington, Sandy Bessette and her husband Carl of South Hero, Vicky Broe and her husband Mike and Steven Gilbeau and his wife Patty both of Westford, Debbie Fowler and her husband Leo of Proctor and Leon Gilbeau of Colchester; his brother and sister-in-laws, Rose Thomas of Milton, Harold and Sherri Maxfield of Fairfax as well as Charles and Phillip Maxfield also of Fairfax; several nieces and nephews including, Jamie, James Robert, Steven Jr., Danielle, Adam, Michelle, Matthew, Molly and Justin as well as special nieces, Rachael and Shannon; one grandniece and one grandnephew; several uncles and aunts including his special uncle, Leo Rich and Aunt Theresa Arello. He was predeceased by a stepson, Barry Jay Maxfield on March 17, 1999.
