J. WELBORN BENTLEY, 83, of Winter Haven, died Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at Winter Haven Hospital.
He was born Sept. 29, 1922, in Monticello.

He was a pioneer in the citrus industry as a citrus grower and the founder of Bentley Bros. Inc. in 1953. He enjoyed golf and fishing and was an avid Gator's fan. He was a member of the Shriners and the Lake Region Yacht and Country Club. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Bentley of Winter Haven; three sons, Patrick T. Bentley, Robert W. Bentley and Raymond O. Bentley, all of Winter Haven; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home Chapel in Winter Haven. The funeral will follow at 11 a.m. in the chapel. Interment will be held at Lakeside Cemetery in Winter Haven.

Memorial donations can be sent to the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind, 207 N. San Marco Ave., St. Augustine, FL 32084 or the National Association of the Deaf, 814 Thayer Ave. Silver Springs, MD 20910.
