Sadie Faye Ratchford Hoover passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at home. Sadie was born on December 8, 1926 in Gaston County. Her parents were the late Crown and Mattie Best Ratchford of the Costner community. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, John DeWayne Hoover; sisters, Cora Rhyne, Ruby Robinson, Clara Hastings, Helen Hoffman and Wilma Craig; and brothers, Samuel Ratchford, Forest Ratchford and Mervin Ratchford.

Sadie graduated from Gaston College and Appalachian State Teachers College. Sadie worked for 24 years in the Gaston County Schools office, then she realized her dream of going to college. She became a teacher and taught 22 years in the Gaston County School system. Sadie was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Dallas. She served her church as an elder, clerk of session, taught Sunday School, led the Women of the Church, and served on numerous committees. She was a member of the Tryon Resolves DAR and a very active member of the ECA of Crouse and many other clubs and organizations. She loved crafts and travel was a pleasure for her. She visited all 50 states and traveled all over the world. Sadie loved and supported many worthy causes.

She is survived by her sister, Marie Johnston (Charlie) and by special nieces and nephew, Paula Wallace and Sylvia and Charles Sellers. Many nieces and nephews also survive her.

Thanks is extended to special caregiver, Cathy Houser and to Hospice and Palliative Care, Lincoln County.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Dallas with Pastor Vickie Burgess and the Rev. Lou Ann Sellers presiding on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
