Jim was born on April 27, 1935, on a farm in Union County on Highway 601 near Monroe, NC to
James Hoyle Biggers, Sr. (1901–1978)
Wattie Lee Hargett Biggers (1907–2006)

He graduated from the local high school, Fairview, and went on to NC State, graduating with a mechanical engineering degree.

As a member of the Air Force ROTC, he served time in the military. He attended St. Louis U. for a year studying meteorology, and then served two years at Shaw Air Force Base as a weather forecaster.

While in St. Louis, he met his wife, Betty, and they were married in 1959. After being discharged from the Air Force, he went to work with Bouligny, in Charlotte. During his time there, he also served in the Air National Guard. Later, he had jobs with 3M in Laurens, SC and then went on to Athens, GA working for Reliance Electric. He became the Operations Manager of Industrial Motors there, as well as responsible for motor plants in Madison, Ind. and Gainesville, GA.

In Athens, he was active in the Rotary Club, was President of the Athens Area Industrial Management Group, was Chairman of the United Way Campaign, earned an MBA from UGA, and was appointed by the Governor to the GA State Chamber of Commerce.

After being in Athens for 27 years, he finished the last few years before retiring at the Rockwell Automation headquarters in Greenville, SC.

Jim was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Agape Sunday School Class.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 200 W. Washington St., Greenville, SC.
