James E. Lathrop Sr, 84 of Tampico died Wednesday January 25, 2017 at his home.
He was born on May 24, 1932 in Ottumwa, IA the son of Roy and Nancy (Walker) Lathrop. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the Air Force from 1951 β 1955. He married Pauline Ghys on November 12, 1955 in Des Moines, IA. She died September 14, 2002. He was employed at the former Northwestern Steel and Wire Co in Sterling from 1970- 1995 retiring as a crane operator. James was a member of the Rock Falls American Legion Post 902; He had raced stock cars at the former Speed Bowl Park in Sterling; he enjoyed watching NASCAR and fishing.
Surviving is his son, James E. Lathrop Jr (Patti) of Bartonville, IL; his brother Larry (Pat) Lathrop of Rock Falls; his daughter-in-laws: Judy Phillips of Sterling and Maryann Lathrop of NJ; 6 grandchildren: Brett Phillips of Rockford, Jamie (Tina) Phillips of MD, Nichol (Josh) Bicknese of Mount Morris, IL, Mandie Pratt (James) of Prophetstown, Dee Morris and Dawn Toth both of NJ; 11 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two sons: Ralph Phillips and Phil Lathrop.
At his request there will be no services. Cremation will take place.
