A son of the late Harry I. Speicher and Elizabeth Mae (Stump) Speicher, he was born May 24, 1932 in Wernersville, PA.
Vernon was a veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. In 1994, Vernon retired as a Manager of Technical Development at Vascor Inc. In that position, he made significant contributions to the development of many medical innovations, including one of the first implantable cardiac defibrillators. He was a member of Cross Roads Community Presbyterian Church in Leechburg. Vernon had also been a member of the Leechburg Rotary Club, the Kiski Bootleggers Camping Club, and the former Masonic Lodge in Leechburg. He enjoyed traveling, camping, and especially spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Anna Mae R. (Bond) Speicher of Leechburg; three daughters, Sandra Shiner (Geoffrey), Sally Baker (Scott)
and Sherry Tarella; eight grandchildren, Matthew Shiner (Kelly), Jacqueline Hyatt, Jeremy Baker (Stephanie), Devin McCartney (Kayla), Adam Baker (Christine), Tyler McCartney (Savannah), Dominic Tarella (Nina), Zach Tarella (Angela); ten great-grandchildren; a brother, Gerald Speicher; a sister, Lois Livengood; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marian Frey; his brothers, John, Earl, Paul, James, Harry Jr., Robert Speicher; and son-in-law, Joe Tarella.
Interment will be held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Allegheny Township.
