Litchfield Monitor 28 November 1786
DIED, last Sunday, and yesterday was interred, the remains of Mr. SUPPLY STRONG, in the 90th year of his age. — He was the second male child born in Lebanon, and one of the first settlers in Litchfield. In habitual exercise of those humble but amiable and unaffected virtues of Temperance, Honesty, Benevolence and Devotion, passed the various vicissitudes of transitory life, with uncommon equanimity, and finally endured the painful winter of its gradual decay with remarkable patience, triumphantly closing the probationary scene with superior consociation of cheerful prospects before him, through the gracious merits of an Almighty Redeemer; thus exemplifying that serious and interesting truth on divine record, That holiness with contentment is great gain — That even if the sacred bible could be supposed to be fabulous, and the all important doctrines of future retribution, a chinra__ he was long happily deceived; but otherwise, (as most certainly) godless is possible to all things, having promise of the life that now is and that which is to come. The Rev. Mr. Champion preached a Funeral Sermon upon the occasion, from the last verse in the book of Job.
[Rev. Champion was the minister of the Congregational Church of Litchfield]
