Mary Jane, also known as "Jennie," was the second child of Robert Riddle and Mary Jane (Zinn) Conn. This birth date is derived from a combination of her Henry County death record of 08/23/1905 (saying she was 50 years, 10 months and 15 days old), and the Henry County cemetery stone's reading book. That notes her birth date as 11/06/1854. That "6" could very well be a misreading of an "8". The DOD and age at death on her mortuary card is "non-official," and these cards can often contain printing errors. Her place of birth is determined by the 1860 census when her parents were in Hancock County as well as a 1910 Napoleon, Ohio newspaper account of their lives noting this fact, with this daughter deceased. "Jennie" Conn married James Cornelius Ballard 09/07/1873 in Henry County and they had Alva Oren Ballard in 1874. They divorced or separated and, by 1880, she and her son were in that census back living with her parents, named Conn not Ballard, and Cornelius is listed as a "widower" in the same. He's buried with his second wife, Harriet Overhulse Ballard. (Mary) Jane Ballard then married Michael Bower Todd 05/04/1881 in Wood County, and they had Herman Orson Todd in 1882. Michael died in 1889 and is buried with his first wife, Mary McLaughlin Todd. Mary Jane Todd then married Henry Briney 02/11/1897 in Henry County and they can be found in the 1900 census with his son, George, from his first wife, Helena (Rogge) Briney, and her son Herman. After Jennie Briney died in 1905, Henry married Libby DuBois in Henry County 04/18/1907, and he then died 02/27/1908 and is presumed buried with both his wives at Olive Branch.
