At age 80 Miss Heard's vision included seeing a need to educate young people regarding the importance of nature preservation. As a result the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary opened October 1, 1967 and now serves more than 100,000 visitors each year through education, preservation and conservation.
