Son of James Perry Pennell and Melvina Furlough, SS Pennell was the husband of Mary Louisa Van Horn. Father to Ona, Lolah, Mary and Fay Pennell. Step father of Oma Blalock.
He is buried in Mt Pleasant Cemetery, Butterfield Missouri, Barry County. His siblings included:

Martha J. Pennell Terry 1872-1898
Richard O. Pennell 1875-1913
Mary A. Pennell Terry 1879-1962
James Homer Pennell 1886-1961
William Harrison Pennell. 1889-1964

(In the obit for his sister-in-law, Rosa Elizabeth Van Horn Shull Bullington, one of her survivors was listed as sister Mrs. SS Pennell. I've found in the Missouri death certificate site that his name was spelled PENNELL and also there are some of his relatives that their names are spelled PENNEL. Not sure which is correct, but for him I will use two L's) Also, according to family records it lists his name as Samuel Sanford instead of Sanford Samuel, even though it says on his stone: Sanford S.
