John was born March 31, 1943 in Salina, Kansas to John H. Harper and Ola Eugenia "Peggy" (Colquitt) Harper.
He grew up in Van Horn, Texas and graduated from Van Horn High School. He attended Texas A&M University where he received his Bachelors and Masters degrees in science. He then attended Cornell University for 2 years.
In his early years, he worked for Texas Department of Transportation. He also was a locksmith and a Stock and Commodities Broker.
He married Charlotte Helton on June 6, 1965 in Dallas, Texas.
He liked to build computers, follow the markets and gardening. He loved to read and was well versed in history. He was also an amateur photographer.
After living in the Woodlands for several years, John and Charlotte moved to Brady in 2004.
He was a Methodist.
A Gathering of Remembrance for John Colquitt Harper will be on Saturday, August 6, 2022 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels in Brady. Interment of John Harpers cremated remains will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Brady at a later date.
John is survived by his daughter Diane E. Harper of Brady, Texas; son William D. "Bill" Harper and wife Laura Lynne of Colorado Springs, Colorado; brothers James S. "Jim" Harper and wife Laura of Christoval, Texas and Joe R. Harper and wife Leticia of Mertzon, Texas; sister Sally Elder of Van Horn, Texas; grandchildren William W. Weise, III and wife Ciciley, Zachery Harper, Joshua Harper, Kaleigh Harper and Evan Giddings, Jr.; 3 great-grandchildren and special friends Brian King, Marilyn Lynsley and Elaine Reinhard.
He was preceded in death by his wife Charlotte, his parents and brother-in-law Gary Elder.
Memorial contributions in memory of John Colquitt Harper may be made to the Heart of Texas Hope House, 1303 North Walnut Street, Brady, Texas 76825.
