Alan L. Nutz, 83, of Iola, Kansas, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, at Windsor Place in Iola, Kansas.

He was born April 18, 1924, in Hepler, Kansas, the son of Leonard N. and Zelma (Anderson) Nutz.

He grew up in the Piqua, Kansas area.

He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.

After his military service he drove a truck and worked in the oil fields. He moved to LaHarpe, KS. He worked several years for Head Start.

On Feb. 14, 1975, he was married to Delma (McVey) Colgin in La Harpe, Kansas. They made their home in La Harpe until moving to Iola eight years ago.

He liked to go dancing and camping.

He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, LaHarpe VFW, Moran American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans in Chanute.

He is survived by his wife; a son, James Colgin, Garden City, KS; three daughters, Sandra Beaman, Belle Plaine, KS, Deloris Johnson, Grain Valley, MO, and Betty Seeber, Troy, MO; four half brothers, Harmon Helman Jr., LaHarpe, KS, Don Helman and Ronnie Helman, Iola, KS, and Dave Helman, McPherson, KS; a half sister, Ruth Dalton, Quapaw, OK; two stepsisters, Helen Drennon, Charleston, AR, and Dorothy Malloy, Independence, MO; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at Waugh-Yokirn & Friskel Memorial Chapels. The Rev. Lloyd Houk will officiate. B urial will be in La Harpe Cemetery in La Harpe, Kansas.

Memorials suggested to Allen County Health Care Foundation "Hospice", American Cancer Society, or Grace Baptist Church.
