Lucy Ann Smith married James M. Ragan on August 27, 1846 in Hendricks County, Indiana. In 1850, she and James were living in Marion Township, Hendricks County with a New Winchester, Indiana address. They had two children, Mary, age 3, and John S, age 1. By 1860 they had five more children. The family was listed in the 1860 census as follows: James, age 38; Lucy A, age 37; Mary A, age 13; John S, age 11; Zechariah, age 9; Abner, age 9; Reuben, age 7; James B, age 3; and William H, age 1. In 1870, only one additional child, Milton, age 5, was listed in the census record.
