Survivors include his wife, Erma Akers Gathercole of Salem; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Gary Arnold of Greenville, S.C; grandson and wife, Jarred and Shondie Arnold of Greenville, S.C; great-grandchildren, Collin Arnold, Hannah Arnold; brother, Charles Gathercole, Jr. of Newport; sister, Nova Davis of Richmond; brother-in-law, Woodie Akers; sister-in-law, Ollie Duncan; brother and sister-in-law, Edath and Elisha Duncan. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 2001 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd with Rev. Douglas Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Akers Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Maberry Funeral Home. on July 17, 2001.2
