Virginia (Ginger) Bass Galloway, 73, died Wednesday at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family following a brief illness. A service celebrating her life will be held Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at 3:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church where she was a life member. The family will gather with friends following the service in the Virginia Gilmer Room at the Church.
Ginger was a native of Greensboro and the daughter of the late Virginia Lucille Vanstory and Luther Thomas Bass. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn Lee Bass.
Her love for the Church and impactful personality for God was evident in her life and in her teaching of Sunday school, being a youth leader, member of Hearts and Minds church circle, a discussion leader in Bible Study Fellowship and church Deacon & Elder. Ginger's expanded love of life was witnessed through her being a Girl Scout leader and gourmet cook. Her eye for beauty brought activities in the Green Thumb Garden Club and the Bonne Terre Garden Club, as well as beautiful calligraphy. It was through her creativity that she began the Tussie Mussie dried flower business which began as a hobby (that she said "wentamuck") but sprang into a thriving business. She was truly an inspiration to those with whom she came in contact and will be remembered by her saying "bloom where you are planted".
Ginger exuded a zest for life whose mantra was compassion for others and exceptional love for her family which include her cherished husband of 52 years, J. Alexander (Alex) Galloway.
