James "Jimbo" H. Gorney, age 74, of Bay City, Michigan passed away Monday evening, July 25, 2022 at Woodland Hospice House in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. Jim was born April 29, 1948 to the late Hubert Joseph and Leticia Roberta (Miller) Gorney. After graduating high school, Jim enlisted in the United States ARMY on December 3, 1969 and was honorably discharged July 6, 1971. Upon his return, Jim met and married the former Joanne Marie Marcinkowski on August 16, 1974 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Bay City, Michigan. He spent many years working in the area but his most loved employer was Menard's where he was the manager of the hardware department. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed fishing, feeding and watching deer and boating with his granddaughter, Jalynn, who was the light of his life, and volunteering at Hampton Elementary after his retirement where he was fondly known as Mr. Jim. Jim was also a proud Vietnam Veteran who was always wearing a hat, shirt, or jacket.
Jim will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Joanne; daughter, Jennifer (Kris Richard); granddaughter, Jalynn; sister, Carol (Tom) Donovan; brother-in-law, Steven Marcinkowski; special friends, Mike Holt and Connie Bahm; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
According to Jim's wishes, cremation has taken place. His family will gather with friends and family on Friday, July 29, 2022 from 12:00-8:00 p.m. with a celebration of life and military honors at 6:00 p.m. all being held at Ambrose Funeral Home, 1200 Garfield Avenue, Bay City, Michigan 48708. He will be laid to rest at a later date at Floral Gardens Cemetery in Bay City, Michigan. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution may wish to consider family wishes in care of Joanne Gorney.
A special thank you to the staff at the Woodland Hospice House for the exceptional care they gave not only to Jimbo but to his family also. An online guest registry is available at www.ambrosefuneralhome.com
