Anthony Joseph Baumbach passed away on July 26, 2022 at the age of 77 after a courageous 2 ½ year battle with esophageal cancer. He kept his family, friends, and nursing staff in stitches until the end with his silly shenanigans and eye-rolling jokes, always confirming he was "fine as frog's hair" and answering the question of "How do you feel?" with the answer of "with my fingers."

Born November 7, 1944, Anthony grew up in Ellinger, TX, and was the oldest of three siblings. He was known as a bit of a prankster as a child--a reputation that followed him well into adulthood. He joined the Navy and served for 4 years, including 1 year in Vietnam.

Shortly after his return home, Anthony met the love of his life, Marilyn Dale Glueck, and they married shortly thereafter, raising three children, Monica, Kevin, and Karen. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last August.

Always mechanically inclined, Anthony spent 17 years in construction at Drymalla Construction and another 25 years working in maintenance at Columbus ISD, which also gave him the added benefit of keeping close tabs on his kids (much to their dismay).

Anthony obtained his insurance license and put his people skills to use selling home and liability insurance for RVOS. He thrived as an agent, always taking the time to get to know his customers personally. He had a great love for people and never met a stranger.

Anthony loved all things outdoors, and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends and family. He was a member of St. Roch's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and CCFPPA (Columbus Coaches and Friends Poker Playing Association). He loved the Astros and followed their games daily on TV and the radio, even during his last weeks in the hospital.

Anthony is preceded in death by his parents, Sidonie and Alton. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his children and their spouses, Monica and Greg, Kevin and Sheri, and Karen and Sonny; his grandchildren Zachary, Brendan, Makenna, Tanner, and Logan; and his brother Jerry and sister Margie.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 28, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus, TX. A parish prayer service and rosary will follow at 7:00 PM. A funeral service is scheduled for Friday, July 29, 2022 at 11:00 AM at St. Roch's Catholic Church in Mentz, TX with Fr. Bob Knippenberg officiating. Visitation at church will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Roch's Catholic Church, 1600 Frelsburg Rd., Alleyton, TX 78935 or the American Cancer Society, 2500 Fondren Rd., Suite 100, Houston, TX 77063.
