Eugene L. Chronister, West Plains, MO, the son of Ora & Rena Parrott Chronister was born in Alton, MO, September 26, 1927, and passed away July 24, 2022, at Shady Oaks Healthcare in Thayer, MO, at the age of 94 years.
After returning from the Korean War, he married Wanda L. Sutton, November 11, 1955. Gene spent 40 years working as a foreman for Laclede Gas Company in St. Louis, before retiring in 1996. After retiring, Gene & Wanda moved to West Plains, MO.
Preceding him in death were: his parents, Ora & Rena Chronister; Wanda, his wife of 57 years; brothers, Dallas, Dorlas, and Ivan; sisters, Clessie Shehorn & Louise Shrum.
Surviving are many nieces and nephews who enjoyed listening to his hunting and fishing stories, his war stories while he was on Pork Chop Hill during the Korean War, as well as looking at his flowers and vegetable garden. He could convince you that his onions and tomatoes were the biggest ever grown.
He enjoyed God's gift of nature, especially hunting deer. He would show you he had killed 122 because he recorded the numbers on a stick.
He was a kind and gentle man, a Christian, with membership in the United Freewill Baptist Church in West Plains. He will be missed by his nieces and nephews as well as his special neighbors, Rose Vaughn & Charles Morris & wife Irma.
Funeral services will be 11am Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at the Clary Funeral Home in Thayer, MO, with Bro. Jason Roberts officiating, and burial following in the Cave Springs Cemetery in Alton, MO. Arrangements are under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home of Thayer, MO.
