The middle name Rebecca has been suggested. But in every census record from 1860 through 1900, her marriage license, her obituary, Lorenzo's obituary and documentation for every one of her 11 children, no middle name was recorded. No other researcher has found a single document showing anything other than the initial R. Unfortunately, the middle name Rebecca has been copied over and over. Repetition is not proof.

Perhaps Rebecca was Margaret's middle name, but given the circumstances of Margaret's father's death, perhaps Margaret did not choose to use it. As thus far researched, none of Lorenzo and Margaret's children named a daughter Rebecca, either.~The Quill, page 4

Mrs. Lorenzo Conn, after many months of terrible suffering caused by a cancer, departed this life Wednesday last at her home 3 miles east of town. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Lawrence Bear of Elvaston at the Majorville church Friday, in the presence of a large concourse of sorrowing relative and friends. Burial in the family lot at Majorville. Following is the obituary.

Margaret R. Conn, wife of Lorenzo Conn, was born in this vicinity Sept. 17, 1852. Her girlhood was spent in this neighborhood and in Fountain Green. On June 7, 1871 she was married to Lorenzo Conn who is left to mourn her loss. Eleven children were born to them, nine of whom are living and were with her in her last hours, the other 2 died in infancy. They had one grand-child [sic], Ivan, who has been with her since his infancy, and on him she lavished all the wealth of a grandmother's love and care. Mrs. Rachel Burrow is her only surviving sister. She was a loving wife, a tender and devoted mother, meeting sorrow or misfortune with a high and noble courage. She gave cheerfully and unstintingly, the best there was in her heart and life to her family, her loyalty and devotion to them calling forth the admiration of all who knew her. She was a strong kind friend and neighbor, always ready to lend a helping hand and to succor those in need. She was a faithful and helpful member of the Methodist episcopal church for many years. Last October the state of her health made it necessary for her to be taken to the hospital and undergo some painful operations, which she endured uncomplainingly and has borne all the months of suffering since with a wonderful patience and cheerfulness, knowing from the first that she was afflicted with a fatal malady, she has never been despondent but has been upheld through all by her firm faith in God's goodness and has constantly expressed her willingness and readiness to go when God should call her. She lived to see the results of her life teachings exemplified in her family by the tender care and devotion she received from them during her illness. Often when her friends called to see her she would say with a happy smile, "but no one could have any better care than I have had." The faith that consoled her in life sustained her in death."
