David graduated from Rogers City High School in 1959. Following graduation, he began his sailing career as a chef on the Great Lakes aboard the Cedarville. After surviving the sinking of the Cedarville on May 7, 1965, he went to work at the UAW as their chef. David was instrumental in creating and served as the Director for the Great Lakes Lore Maritime Museum in Rogers City. David enjoyed spending time at the museum talking with everyone who came in.
David was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Myrtle; son, Kevin (Conni); and a granddaughter, Sarah.
