Husband of Mary Catherine Yost and son of Lewis Lutman and Sarah A. Dawson.
He enlisted in the Union Army 06 Sep 1861, mustered out 13 Sep 1864, Co.F, 2nd Regiment Maryland Volunteers.
He and Mary were married 17 Dec 1868, Morgan Co, WVA. In 1870 they were farming in Bath Twp, Morgan County. By 1880, a widower, he was living with his children at his parent's farm.
The 1890 Veteran's Disability Schedule records him having lung problems, piles, and rheumatism which may have caused him work related problems and he lived with his daughter Florence and her family from before 1900 until his death.
Known child: Florence V.
Note: He was born in Virginia before WVA was formed from VA.

Mr. Geo. W. Lutman, an old and respected resident of Morgan county, died on Sunday morning, August 13, 1916, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Waugh, living near New Hope, three miles east of Berkeley Springs.

About two weeks before his death he was partially paralyzed and grew worse until the end came. He was aged 77 years, 2 months and 28 days. Mrs. Waugh, with whom he made his home for a number of years, is his only child; to her his departure is a great loss.

He leaves three brothers, William, Thornton and Daniel and two sisters, Mrs.. Henry Michael and Mrs. John Waugh.

In his death the few old veterans of the Civil war, who are left loose another of their old comrades, he having served as a soldier in Co. F, 2nd Maryland Regiment of the Union Army for a term of three years.

The funeral services were held at the home, conducted by Rev. C.H. Crowell. His body was laid to rest in Greenway cemetery by the side of his wife, who died and was buried there in the year 1874.
