Jessie Thelbert Atchley, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on July 7, 2022 at the age of 85. He was a native of Fish Pond, Alabama, born on July 19, 1936 to his loving parents, the late Sherrill Jones Atchley and Lola Mae Monroe. Jessie was raised by his stepdad, Archie Justice, of whom he loved dearly from the age of 7. He is the beloved husband of 63 years to Enola Galley Atchly; cherished father of Randy Wayne Atchley and Denise Ann Atchley Aucoin; proud grandfather of Crystal Gonzales, Kayla Aucoin, Randy Atchley II, Jessieca Hyneman, and Courtney Atchley; great-grandfather of Cailynn, Jackson, Olivia, Eva, Jolie, Brysen, Lillie, Eli, Adielynn, and Maddix; and great-great-grandfather of Nova. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends whom he loved deeply. He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings: Johnny Atchley, Louise Fiquett, Ella Audrey Atchley, Berta Sue Grier, Felix Atchley, and Alvin Atchley.
Jessie was a welder and pipefitter by trade, a career he thoroughly enjoyed. He bravely served in the United States Navy and was a member of Ridge Memorial Baptist Church. Jessie enjoyed staying busy in his spare time by fishing, hunting, gardening, and woodworking. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Sunday, July 17, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Audubon Funeral Home in Slidell. A Funeral service was held in the chapel at 6:00 p.m. Jessie was laid to rest with Military Honors on Monday, July 18, 2022, in the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery at 10:00 a.m.
