Wally Timm was a pioneer of American aviation: barnstormer, wingwalker, stunt pilot, air racer, and designer and manufacturer of aircraft.
With his brothers Otto (Memorial 36478818) and Reuben (Memorial 241699064) he moved to Southern California, first to San Diego and then to Venice. He began work as a mechanic, servicing aircraft in exchange for flying lessons. He was noted for flying old biplanes over the California mountains and desert, leading him into the Hollywood film industry. Among his accomplishments there: he taught famed stunt pilot Art Goebel (Memorial 13404724) to fly.
Wally and Otto, in their Timm Airplane Company, designed and produced pre-World War II military training aircraft. Probably Wally's most memorable plane was featured in the 1965 movie Flight of the Phoenix.
