Robert L. Boggus, Jr., 99, of Conyers passed from this life on Thursday, July 14, 2022. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Charlotte Boggus; parents Robert and Doris Boggus, Sr.; sister, Francis Padgett; and brother, James Boggus.
After serving in the Army in World War II, Bob returned home to Atlanta, receiving his BA in Business Administration from Oglethorpe University, class of 1949. His career spanned work at the Georgia Art Supply Company, the Dixie Seal and Stamp Company and Piedmont Moulding Corporation. In his retirement years Bob could be found working in the garden department at Cowan Ace Hardware.
Bob moved his family to Conyers in 1970 and worked and served as an active member of the community for over 50 years. A member of the Conyers Presbyterian Church, he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon and Elder, and led the church's first stewardship campaign in 1971. He co-founded and led the Rockdale Youth Soccer Association for over a decade, serving as President, Vice President, Board Member, Fund Raiser and Coach. He was the creative genius behind RYSA's highly successful Vidalia Onion fundraising campaign. He worked diligently with the Conyers/Rockdale Boys and Girls Club of America, and was awarded the inaugural Man and Boy award. He served his beloved Oglethorpe University as a member and President of the Athletic Booster Club and as a member of the Alumni Board. A Georgia Certified Master Gardener, Bob loved planting and growing things, and spent every spare moment diligently landscaping his yard and working his garden.
Bob is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: Lee and Joe Knippenberg, Libby and Dave Courtright; son and daughter-in-law: Rob and Tami Boggus; 10 grandchildren: Taylor, Scotty, Shelby, Emily, Charlotte H., William, Liam, Erick, Charlotte K. and Sara; and four great grandchildren: Sawyer, Sage, Charley and Mason.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Conyers Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kevin Hicks officiating. The family will receive friends Monday, July 18, 2022 from 2 until 4 p.m. and 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A private interment will be held at Green Meadow Memorial Gardens.
