On January 08, 1939, Jaleama was born to Truitt and Neva Cochran on the Cochran homestead in Bivens. Growing up on a farm was hard work so she would often sneak away to the barn. Reading was always one of her favorite pastimes all her life. If you called on the phone or stopped by for a visit, she always had a book in hand.
As a young woman, she would marry John Homer Pruitt who was in Louisiana as a soldier in the Army. They had three children together, John Elliott, Theresa Joy and Sherry Denise. While they moved around for work in their early years of marriage, they settled back in Merryville. She worked as a nurse's aide until she gained her LPN. She worked in the local hospital, doctor's office and as a respiratory therapist for a time.
After retiring from the medical field, she went back to one of her talents, sewing. She opened The Sew Shop in Merryville and had many years of success. Along with selling fabric and notions, she did alterations and even made the cheerleader outfits for MHS for a time.
During her years of working and on, she became Little Granny. She played a huge part in her grandchildren's lives. She gave an abundance of guidance on life, along with taking them fishing, teaching them how to cook, sew and love without expecting anything in return.
She was a friend to many and kind to everyone. It was rare for her to say a negative word. And occasionally she cracked a joke, catching everyone off guard but creating a laugh.
Any struggle that cam her way, she faced it with grace. Her family was her greatest asset and they feel the same in return. She was the best mother, granny, and friend any of us could ever ask for.
On July 14, 2022, her life ended in the same spot on the family homestead that it began. If there was a perfect ending, that was it.
