[Obituary]
BLACK – Feb. 12, 1930 - The entire citizenship of Luverne was saddened when it was learned that James A. Black, one of our best citizens was no more, especially does the Editor mourn and lament the untimely death of this good friend and citizen. Mr. Black was among the first citizens here when a young man and held responsible positions in the business life of the town. He was a man of noble character and his friends in the town and county are numbered by those who knew him and will be missed by all of us. He was 68 years old and is survived by his wife and four children as follows: Jim Barner Black of Jackson, Mississippi; Eleanor Black Cagel of Montgomery; Dunk and Perden Black of Luverne; and one brother, Mark L. Black of Luverne. Mr. Black was carried to Memorial Hospital at Montgomery several days ago and was operated on several times. Every thing was done that was possible to save his life, but the end came at 2 o'clock Wednesday morning and his body was brought to Luverne by Turner Brothers. Funeral services will be conducted at the Methodist Church at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning conducted by Rev. Chappelle and interment at Emmaus Cemetery. (The Luverne Journal Feb. 12, 1930)
