Ann L. Opgenorth, 79, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL, as the result of an accident. She was born in Madison, Wisconsin on March 27, 1942, to the late Virginia Annie Bonesho and Alexander H. Opgenorth. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth E. Abeln her first husband and also her business partner Donna Marihart. Ann was a graduate of Marycrest College, Davenport, Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts degree and Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame and a member of Kappa Gamma Pi. Ann was assistant professor of art at Marycrest College for six years before resigning to work full time as a professional artist. Ann was an artist in all mediums from metal sculpture, wood carving, painting, art glass and quilting. Her first studio opened in 1964 in LeClaire, Iowa. In addition, she owned Ivy Ridge Studios in Bellevue, Iowa starting in 1970 before moving the studio to Lake City, Fl in 1990. Their studio was commissioned for numerous paintings and sculptures for homes and public buildings. Her artworks have also been displayed internationally in West Berlin, Germany, Seoul, Korea. Her art work is also displayed in many churches in the United States. She was a member of the Guild of Religious Architects. She won many awards including the National Sculpture Society, recognition from the American Institute or Architects and was listed in "Outstanding Young Women of America." Ann continued to work with metal work sculptures, quilting and oil paintings up to the time of her death. Ann was a member of the Lake City Garden Club and cherished the many friendships.
Survivors include her husband Monroe Morrell and step children Larry Morrell of Longwood, FL, Bob Morrell of Cape Coral Florida and Marilyn Hamm of Lake City, FL.
Ann has requested that there be no funeral services. She will be cremated and burial
