James (Jim) Edwin Davis, 81, passed away peacefully July 8, 2022, at Aspirus Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids.
Jim was born Dec. 29, 1940, in Wisconsin Rapids, to Edwin (Spec) and Barbara (Kirst) Davis. He graduated from Assumption High School in 1960 and worked at Consolidated Papers until 1969. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Communicative Disorders from UW-Stevens Point in 1973.
Jim married Theresa (Terry) Kawatski on January 19, 1963, raising two sons and being blessed with five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. When he was 26, Jim was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, a chronic, crippling disease. Though often in pain, he lived life with strength, humor and kindness, serving as a courageous example for his family, whom he loved dearly.
As Winter Texans, Jim and Terry enjoyed spending the colder months in Brownsville, Texas, where they made many lifelong friends from throughout the United States and Canada. Jim loved hunting and fishing and handmade the jigs that friends and family used to catch countless Canadian walleye. He was also a 20-year member of Wisconsin Rapids Elks Lodge 693, serving as a trustee during that time.
Jim is survived by his wife, Terry, and two sons, Tom (Carol) Davis of Wisconsin Rapids and Steve (Susan) Davis of Rochester Hills, Michigan; grandchildren, Matt (Megan) Davis, Nick (Olivia Roubik) Davis, Brian Davis, Madeline Davis, and Margot Davis; great-grandchildren Ari and Kieran Davis; siblings Bill (Maggie) Davis, Sue Spencer, Mike (Jeanne) Davis, Peggy (Jerry) Katzner, and sister-in-law Marla Davis. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, John Davis.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Ritchay Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2022, at 11 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Burial will follow the Mass at Restlawn Memorial Park.
Memorials may be directed to Assumption High School and Wisconsin Rapids Elks Lodge 693.
Jim's family would like to thank the ICU staff at Aspirus Riverview Hospital for their compassionate, loving and professional care.
