Harley Calvin Brooks Jr., age 89, went home to be with the Lord on May 18, 2022. Born in Harrogate, Tennessee on April 3, 1933, Harley was an active member of many churches, namely First Baptist Church of Bowling Green, Kentucky; Woodmont Baptist Church of Nashville, Tennessee where he served as Deacon, Church Training Director, and taught Sunday School; and First Baptist Church of Boerne, Texas. He had a passion for reading, education, and Christ.
Harley was a graduate in the Class of 1951 from Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Education with a minor in Spanish at the age of 18 and went on to earn his Master's Degree in Library Sciences from George Peabody College in Nashville, Tennessee. He also worked towards a Doctorate at The University of Illinois. He is a published author and recognized by Lincoln Memorial University as a hall of fame member. Harley was a veteran of the Korean War, during which he served as a clerk directing supplies to troops both at home and abroad.
After his higher education pursuits and service in the Military, Harley had a vast and distinguished career in a bibliography. He started at Hiwassee College, where he worked as a Staff Librarian. From there, Harley went on to work as a Circulation Manager at The University of New Mexico, The University of Illinois, and George Peabody College. He then worked in encyclopedia sales for a short time, after which he returned to the world of academic libraries as a Circulation Manager at Western Kentucky University and then Auburn University, from which he retired in 2003.
Outside of work and Church activities, Harley volunteered with The Habitat for Humanity in Auburn, Alabama, and accompanied medical teams on various mission trips to Honduras.
Preceded in death by his parents Harley Calvin Brooks Sr. and Nealy Brooks, and his wife Barbara Anne Brooks. Mr. Brooks is survived by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
Harley was a beloved husband and father, and his family finds peace and comfort knowing that he has been reunited with his wife in Heaven with their Lord and Savior.
