He came to Missouri with his parents when a boy, and with the exception of a few years spent in Arkansas, has since made this county his home. March 10, 1872, he married Miss Rebecca Davis of Benton County, Ark., and four sons and five daughters were born to them six of whom with his wife survive him.
At the age of 23 he professed faith in Christ and joined the Baptist church where he remained the rest of his life. The funeral services were conducted at the home Thursday by Rev. J. L. Leonard of Mt. Vernon, followed by interment in the Fellowship cemetery.
Mr. Nivens was a splendid citizen, neighbor and friend and will be greatly missed in the neighborhood where he has lived so long.
