Richard graduated from Moline High School in 1946; attended Illinois extension of Purdue University and graduated St. Ambrose College and graduated from Aurora College with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in the 811 EAB (Engineering Aviation Battalion) OCS-Engineering and also served in the Iowa National Guard as a 2nd Lieutenant. Richard worked at Aurora Pump, M.P. Schneller & Assoc. and also at Layne-Western, retiring in 2010. He worked for 61 years as a sales engineer.
Richard was an avid golfer for many years at Fox Bend Golf Course in Oswego, Illinois.
Survivors include his son, Michael E. Abramson; his daughter, Susan L. (Abramson) Dyke and his granddaughter, Sara M. Dyke.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Shirley M. (Umland) Abramson and his sister, Nancy Powers.
Interment will be private at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
