He was a farmer and construction worker and was retired from Mulzer Crushed Stone.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Spice Valley Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Pearl Buchanan of Mitchell; sons: Larry Melvin Buchanan and wife Patricia of Paoli and David Eugene Buchanan and wife Zola of English; daughters: Patty Jean Landreth and husband Monty of Salem and Sheila Yvonne Buchanan of Taswell; stepdaughters: Regina Sorrells, of Mitchell, Dianna Kay Webb and husband Lee of Mitchell, Nedra Hardwick and husband Jerry of Bedford, Geni Clouse and husband Steve of Palm Coast, Fla., Marlena Swartz and husband Randay of Mitchell, and Kim Dorsett of Bedford; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
His parents; wife, Alice, brother, Loren Buchanan; and sister, Maymie Giammanco, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Memorial Chapel of the Chastain Funeral Home with the Rev. Lewis Williams and the Rev. Carl Brown officiating. Burial will be in Paoli Community Cemetery with military honors accorded by Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and Marvin R. Davis Veteran of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.
