Elena "Helen" Carmel (nee Aguilera) Buso Torrez, 95, died on July 7, 2022 in Westminster, CO. God welcomed home a radiant, loving, laughing, and wise woman. Helen was a woman of faith who praised God every day for her abundant blessings and taught everyone to FROG (fully rely on God). She was born February 7, 1927 (lucky 7) in Madrid, New Mexico, to José Aguilera and Dolores Mendoza, immigrant Mexican farmworkers. As a child, she worked the sugar beet fields across New Mexico, Colorado, and Nebraska; a meat packing plant in Chicago; and then packing plants in Omaha. There she met Gilberto Manual Buso, whom she married after he "kidnapped" her and they eloped to Sidney, Iowa. They married on August 13, 1947. To this marriage were born four children, who survive: Tillie (Al) Wietharn, Arvada, CO; Lola (Mick) Jovanovich, Thornton, CO; Gilbert Jr., Kansas City, MO; and Kathryn Ann Buso (Jack Healy), Overland Park, KS. After Gilbert Sr.'s death in 1986, she moved to Greeley, CO, to live with sister Isabel. There she met and married Max Torrez in 1991, who also predeceased her, as did her parents and siblings Arnulfo, Gerardo (Harold), Isabel Infante, Salvador (Sam), Moses (Moe), Eliseo (Alex), Ruth Boulton Baxter, Esther Nowlin, infant Maryann, and others who did not survive infancy. She will be remembered lovingly by surviving siblings David (Patti) Aguilera, Omaha, and Daniel Aguilera (Los Angeles); grandchildren Raquel Barber, Phoenix; Ava (Todd) Overman, Alito, TX; and Sergio (Monica) Galaz Jr., Thornton, CO; and great-grandchildren Britani (Jeremy) Sanchez (Westminster, CO) and Isaiah Overman (Arizona) and Anthony Mejia and Michael Galaz (Colorado). She also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews from large Aguilera, Buso, Rodriguez, and DeLoa extended families.
