Norma Jean Poore Carpenter, 84, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2022. Born in Anderson, SC, she was the daughter of the late Malcolm Poore and Eunice G. Poore.
Charles Heyward Carpenter, 88, passed away March 17, 2021. Born in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late Tom Carpenter and Flora Carpenter.
Both attended North Greenville College, where they met and were inseparable since their marriage on June 9, 1957.
Norma Jean was a devoted wife and mother. She was the owner of Carpenter's Flower Shop and Carpenter's Children Shop. Later she worked in retail as the manager of Arthur Smith's Wallcovering and Wallpaper for Less. She also worked as a floral designer at Nature's Corner Florist. She enjoyed painting, crafts, and singing.
Charles served in the Air Force during the Korean War and was a retired rural mail carrier. He served multiple churches in the Anderson Area as a Minister of Music. He also sang in a Barbershop Quartet and performed with the Senior Follies through 2017.
They were preceded in death by their son, Jon, Norma Jean's brother, Roger Poore, and Charles' brother, Tommy Carpenter, and sisters, Mildred Glenn, Lois McKinney and Eleanor Cranford.
They are survived by their son, Don (Adamy) Carpenter, daughters Melanie Kay Basar, Pam (Sam) Adams, Jan (Larry) Henderson; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and Charles' brother Billy (Sue) Carpenter.
A Joint Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 10, at Concord Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. Sunday at the church prior to the service. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
