Doris was born July 3, 1902, at Swanton, Neb., to Bertrus and Sarah (Waldo) Roscoe. She lived in Nebraska until the age of 13. She moved with her mother and siblings to White Sulphur Springs, to join her father who had moved to Montana ahead of the family.
Doris married Abraham Lincoln Ballard on Aug. 30, 1922, at the ranch home near White Sulphur Springs. They then lived near Emigrant and then the Shields River area prior to purchasing the home ranch at Deep Creek near Townsend. In 1959, they moved to Helena and her husband preceded her in death in 1975. Doris moved to Sheridan in 1991 to be near her family.
Doris was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Helena, the Daughters of the King and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She enjoyed gardening, flowers, playing piano, crocheting, knitting, being with her family and assisting at her church.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband; son, Douglas G. Ballard; daughter, Beverly Rose Ballard; great-granddaughter, Jennifer Wilson; daughter-in-law, Geri Ballard; son-in-law, Elmer Hegdal; brothers, Beryl, Fenton, Corbin, and Glen Roscoe; and sisters, Ruth Shaver, Alta Pilon, Gladys Roscoe, and Fern Jackson.
Survivors include her children, Jack and Naomi Ballard of Gilbert, Ariz., Marion "Willie" and Karen Ballard of Chelan, Wash., Robert and Darlene Ballard of Silverton, Ore., and Bonnie Hegdal of Sheridan; grandchildren, Mark, Scott, Linda, Beverlee, Bruce, Maretta, Dan, Kelly, Kimberly, Jeanne, Judy, Wade, Louise, Greg, Carolyn, Amy, Scott, Randy, Darrin, and Kevin; 49 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Interment will follow at the Deep Creek Cemetery in Townsend.
