He was born March 7, 1931 in Hickory, NC to the late Lester Monroe Bollinger and Mary Edith Bollinger Woods.
Bob was a member of First Church of God in Hickory and a 1949 graduate of Hickory High School. He was a United States Army veteran serving for 3 years in Korea and Japan as a radio high speed operator in the 180th Regiment of the 45th Division. Bob played semi-pro baseball with West Hickory Cotton Mill from 1945 to 1950. He also played softball with the First Church of God and managed the Hickory Church softball league at the Hickory Foundation Center and Brookford City field for many years. For 44 years, Bob took a softball team to Roanoke, VA for missions tournaments on Labor Day weekend. He was an avid bowler and along with his friend, Ernie, won 1st place in National Doubles in 2007.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bobby Sue Henkle Bollinger; son, Michael Bollinger; and sister, Maxine Loudermilk Buel.

A service to celebrate Bob's life will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at Transformation Church (formerly First Church of God), 306 14th St. SW, Hickory. Rev. Tommy Young will officiate. Burial will follow with military honors by AmVets of Hickory Post 76 at Oakwood Cemetery in Hickory.
