Funeral Held For Mrs. Hopkins At Steep Hollow
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Olivia V. Hopkins, 83, on Wednesday afternoon at the Steep Hollow Baptist church with burial in the Steep Hollow cemetery. Rev. W. R. Willis, pastor of the First Methodist church officiated.
Mrs. Hopkins died Tuesday at 9:20 at the home of her daughter, Mr. C. R. Sample, at the age of 83 years years, six months and two days after a very short illness. She was the daughter of the late D. L. Foster and Jennie Looney Foster of the Steep Hollow community and had lived in Brazos county since coming here as a small girl from Bienville Parish. La., her birthplace.
She became a Christian in her early teens, joining the Methodist church. Burial was alongside her late husband, Thomas Hopkins.
Mrs. Hopkins is survived by three sons, Orrie [sic] M. Hopkins of Friendswood, William D. Hopkins of Normangee, and R. L. Hopkins of Austin; three daughters, Mrs. A. M. Parker of Laredo and Mrs. Birdie Murray and Mrs. C. R. Sample of Bryan, one brother , W. R. Foster of Crockett; and one sister, Mrs. Lucy Hayslip of Bryan. A great number of grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
A trio composed of Alta Taylor, Luther Pearson, and Guy Sims sang two of her favorite hymns, "Sweet Hour of Prayer" and "Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me." Pallbearers were Robert Jones, J. W. Hamilton, Mit Weedon, and Adolph Syptak, Alton Risinger, and Jack Jones.
Funeral arrangements were under direction of the Riddle Funeral Home of Mexia.
