W. C. Hardin

On last Friday morning the community was shocked by news of the sudden death of Mr. W. C. Hardin on Thursday night. White Mr. Hardin had been in rather ill health for several years, yet he was around as usual on Thursday and conversed with a number of persons on the street in his jovial way.

Mr. Hardin came to Marion some 20 years ago and has been known here as a good citizen and neighbor, kind husband and father, and an honest conscientious man. For many years he was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, and later of the Free Methodist. The funeral service was held at the home Saturday at 10 a.m., Rev. H. C. Wharton officiating, and burial occurred in the Highland Cemetery. The children who were able to be present at the funeral were Miss Clara Hardin and Mrs. Fred Ireton from Kansas City, and John Hardin from Medford, Oklahoma.

Wm. C. Hardin was born in Sevierville, Tennessee, June 19th, 1830. He was married to Sarah A. Conklin, May 11, 1855. Eight children were born to them, four boys and four girls, of whom six are living, four boys and two girls.

On August 14, 1862, he enlisted in Co. G. 66th Indiana Regiment, Volunteer Infantry, and served nearly three years, being mustered out on June 3, 1865.

He died August 23, 1907, aged 77 years, 2 months and three days.
