His parents were Byard and Eliza A. Curless and his grandfather was Asber Curless, who came from Scotland and located in New Jersey. He was one of a family of eleven children.
Those who have preceded him in death are John R., Mary A. Newton, William A., Morris L., Elizabeth S., Patrick H., Samuel B., Ellen J., and James R.
He is survived by one sister - Eliza A., wife of John F. Friermoood of Wabash county. Two brothers, Morris and Samuel, served in the Union army during the civil war and Samuel died in the service.
