Evelyn C. (nee Anderson) Patterson, daughter of Arvid and Clara (nee Robertson) Anderson, was born on September 6, 1925, in Scranton, Iowa. She was a lifelong resident of Stratford, Iowa. She attended Hardin #1 Country School and graduated valedictorian from Stratford High School in 1942.

She married Loren R. Patterson on September 26, 1943. They lived on the family farm southeast of Stratford, where the couple operated the same grain and livestock farm until their retirement in 1984. They lived on the farm until Loren's death on September 15, 2001. She then moved to Athens Woods Estates where she resided for twenty years.

Evelyn was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed her family and found great pleasure in sharing her talents of baking, sewing, gardening, quilting, photography, hair styling, and raising African Violets. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary and an active member of South Marion United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and held various church offices. Evelyn attended Woman's Club and was township clerk for twenty years. She was a board member of Athens Woods Estates, volunteered many hours helping residents there, and also wrote the Athens News for the Stratford Courier. She lived to serve others, it was her passion.

Survivors include her children, Wayne (Barb) Patterson of Ellsworth, Iowa, Rodney (Diana) Patterson of Stanhope,Iowa, and
Barbara (Kevin) Weldy of Elkhart, Indiana; daughters-in-law, Karen Patterson of Norwalk , Iowa, and Deb (Rich) Patterson Engelhorn of Madrid, Iowa. Evelyn had seven grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 6 great great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Evelyn was also preceded in death by her husband, Loren; sons, Roger and Harlan; brother, Robert Anderson and sister, Marian Watson.

A private family funeral service for Evelyn will be held at Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford, Iowa, with Pastor Gina Spohnheimer officiating. Burial will follow at South Marion Cemetery.
