Adelbert "Del" Loren Yaryan passed peacefully on June 28, 2022, of natural causes. He was born in his grandparents' home in Meridian, ID, February 15, 1930; the only child of Clyde W. Yaryan and Emsy E. Scrivner Yaryan. He grew up on farms near Black Cat and Chinden Roads and Five Mile Road. He graduated in 1949 from Boise High School and continued his education at Boise Junior College graduating in 1951.
Del loved old cars and was delighted when he could drive his restored, 1939 Lincoln Zephyr in the Idaho Territorial Centennial Parade in 1963. In 1955, he bought a new Chevrolet Station Wagon, stick shift, and drove that car until 2015 when he stopped driving due to poor eyesight. Del was also partial to motorcycles and owned an Indian, Harley Davidson, and BMW. The BMW was his favorite, and he rode it over 90,000 miles cross-country to Washington D.C., Louisiana, and Mexico City, Mexico. His last cross-country ride took him to Florida in 1965.
Del served his country in the Army; Company B (light weapons), 224th Infantry Regiment, 40th Infantry (Sunshine) Division in Korea from 1952-1954. As a young man, he worked in construction, and then made a career change to auto-body work, retiring from Bob Rice Ford in 1996.
On a blind date, Del met and later married the love of his life, Nellie Mae (Nel) Huskinson on August 19, 1967. Del built their house in 1972, "out in the country" (Five Mile Road). They enjoyed a wonderful life together for almost 40 years. Whatever they were doing, they did it together. One of their most memorable trips was to Hawaii to celebrate their upcoming 40th anniversary. Nel passed June 2007, three months short of their 40th anniversary. Del and Nel enjoyed gardening and always shared their crop with family and friends. He loved to work in his shop welding and tinkering and if he needed a particular tool, he would figure out how to make it.
Del had a soft heart for animals, often setting a bowl of food outside for some hungry stray cat. Del was proud of his heritage and donated several family heirlooms to the Dry Creek Historical Society for the P. L. Schick farmhouse in Hidden Springs.
Del was a gentle soul. His kindness and generosity defined him as much as his determination and "toughness." Del's love for his family and friends was never-ending.
Del often commented that through all life's experiences and challenges, he knew God had His hand on him and spared his life more than once. His advice for living 92 years…keep moving, never give up, and keep a sense of humor.
Del was a lifetime member of EE-DA-HOW Long Rifles, National Rifle Association, Good Sam Club, and The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.
Del is survived by Herb and Lana Huskinson, brother-in-law and sister-in-law; David and Shirley Fretwell, brother-in-law and sister-in-law; nieces, Connie Cahoon and Becky Huskinson; nephews Bryan (Cristina) Huskinson and Michael (Brandi) Fretwell; and numerous great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Nel.
